Let’s Talk About “Love”

In honor of this past “Love Weekend”, I would like to dive into the topic at hand!

L-O-V-E…what does that word mean to you?? Love isn’t something that you have to only share with a spouse/partner. I know it’s easy to get hung up on that specific type of love, especially during made up holidays “Valentine’s and Sweetest Day” or you might feel a way when seeing people post the person they love on social media. It’s not that the “feel a way” is purposely jealous vibes, but it’s the feeling of not having it for yourself. If you don’t want to admit you’ve experienced this; I’ll be honest for all of us. I was once in that state; gratefully I am no longer there.

When you’re having moments like that I want you to think about how you can spread love, instead of what you’re not receiving. You can also work on giving yourself everything you want from a spouse/partner. Before I was in a relationship I would make nice goodie bags for my godson and little cousins. As well as treat myself to something nice and a day/night out.

As I mentioned before, when you spend time loving yourself you will fall in love with who you are. You also can work on the things that may need changing within. Going through my “self-love without a spouse” phase helped me learn a lot about myself, as well as better some things that needed changing and heal from things I didn’t discuss. It is also a period in my life that I am extremely grateful for; it also prepared me for the relationship I’m currently in. Focus on the present, while preparing yourself for what’s to come in the future.

REMEMBER: YOU’RE LOVED!! I’M FOREVER ROOTING FOR YOU!

Let’s Talk About “Staying True to Yourself”

What does it mean to really be true to yourself? I believe it’s done easily when no one is opposed to who you are and what you do, but will you stand firm on who you are when someone has an issue with it? Will you conform to who and what others want you to be, just because it’s convenient for others? Let’s look at a few things that show you’re on the right track to being true to yourself.

Steps Showing You’re Being True to Yourself, You Are:

-Embracing every aspect of you

-Able to share your true thoughts and feelings

-Able to let go of people/things that doesn’t align with who you are

-Aware that your values are most important, not what society wants you to be

-Able to say no to anything that doesn’t align with your values

-Able to do what’s best for you, no matter who may disagree

Those are a list of some things that will help you if you’re struggling with being true to yourself. Again, it’s easy when no one has a problem with how you operate. I challenge you to stay firm in who you are at all times no matter who has an issue with it.

Always keep in mind you’re the author of your life and you control what you allow. Forgive yourself when you make “mistakes” or put up with things/people that don’t align with your worth. Those lessons will help build your character, as well as give you experience in those areas to not put yourself through it again.

Continue to keep your goals aligned with your vision and never conform to what’s “trendy”. Stay in your own lane and never begin to be fake, phony, or forceful with anything in your life. DEMI IS FOREVER ROOTING FOR YOU; CONTINUE TO ROOT FOR YOURSELF AND STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES!

Let’s Talk About “What Motivates You?”

Last week’s blog post was about “legacy” and what we can focus on to help build the foundation and blocks to shape our legacy. Just to recap I mentioned focusing on what you’re good at/passionate about because I personally believe that’ll drive you towards being able to add values to others. A legacy is what you’re known for and what you leave behind for others! Remembering “You also may not get to see your seeds blossom, but when you leave this world there will be a garden blooming from seeds you planted within your lifetime.”

Going off last week’s topic I want to get you to start thinking about “What Motivates You”? There’s so many things that can take place in life that will throw us off our goals we want to accomplish. So, when things aren’t going smooth sailing in life, what is it that will motivate you to stay focused? There could be positive things driving us or not so good things.

I also believe sometimes we don’t always recognize what’s motivating us, but it naturally does. Not being one to judge, but some are motivated by drama, sex, or even drugs. These are a few things I think people are driven by, but not recognizing these things alone excites them. I think it’s good to dissect what motivates you because having the wrong thing fuel you can eventually lead to self-destruction.

When it’s something/someone positive in your life that can help motivate and fuel you to push through; I believe it makes going through life changes easier and more worth it. Some are motivated by their family, career, and/or simply making a positive impact on the world. I read a blog post online and they mentioned being motivated by:

-Money and Rewards

-Desire to be the Best

-Helping Others

-Power and Fame

-Recognition

-The Passion

I suggest you look at the above list and reflect on which of those things motivate you. Having a sense of motivation is needed in your daily life. Motivation is the only way you will put action behind your dreams; without it you will not accomplish anything. There are some things I want to encourage you to do after reading this blog post:

  1. Find what motivates you
  2. Use it to fuel you to push through to accomplish your goals
  3. Enjoy the journey no matter where it takes you
  4. Stay focus

REMEMBER: DEMI IS ALWAYS ROOTING FOR YOU!! Until Next Time!

Let’s Talk About “Legacy”

When it comes to legacy it should be something we’re working towards daily. What is a legacy? A legacy is something you are known for, which could be something positive or negative. We’re not put on this earth to be perfect, but there should be something you offer the world that adds value. Personally, I believe the most efficient way to begin building a legacy is focusing on what you do well/best that adds value to others.

What are you passionate about? Is it creating, helping, music, food, information/knowledge etc.? What is it that brings your heart joy? This will make it easy and natural for you to work on building your legacy. There will be some bumps that may come up in the road, but keeping your legacy and the main importance of your passion in mind will help push you through those obstacles. I believe obstacles are needed in our journey in life because it helps add character and shapes who we need to be in order to be successful.

My boyfriend [Cordele] and I were having dinner and discussing the topic of legacy. He said something that stood out to me, “What you leave behind in this world is more important than what you take away from it”. This made me think, the reality is our life is bigger than ourselves and when we leave here we can’t take anything with us, but we hope we leave something sufficient behind for the next generation. We’re not living fully for ourselves, but those who come after us.

Even if it’s a position you have at a company, there should be some guidelines in place to where the next person who steps into your shoes has enough information for them to learn and thrive. You may think you’re an ordinary person, but to someone else you’re extraordinary and they would love to follow in your footsteps and/or take qualities that they’ve learned from you. You also may not get to see your seeds blossom, but when you leave this world there will be a garden blooming from seeds you planted within your lifetime. “If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.” – Maya Angelou. ALWAYS REMEMBER, I AM FOREVER ROOTING FOR YOU! LET’S VOW TO WORK TOWARDS OUR LEGACY DAILY!

Let’s Talk About “New Year/Opportunities”

Here we are, the first Monday of the new year!!!! Wow, I just can’t believe we’ve made it to another year. No, things are probably not “back to normal”, but there’s already something to be grateful for! All across the world there have been many people who have lost their life in 2020 and for you to be able to read this blog post in a brand new year is a blessing in itself!

I know a lot of people are waiting for the world to “get back to normal”. Well the harsh reality is this is our new normal, but does that mean this normal is a bad thing? I would no; I believe we should approach everything with an open-mind by seeing what opportunities can come out of our current circumstances. There have been so many people who have taken a leap of faith, quit jobs, and started their own businesses in the midst of a pandemic. I believe that in itself shows how capable we are as a species.

Write the vision, make it plain, and put it into action! This is the year of execution!!!! Keep in mind that everyone can not go to the next level with you. This next level will require more focus than you’ve ever had before. Last year, tugged on a lot of people mentally and emotionally, including myself. This year, it’s time we take back control of our lives and take the necessary steps we need to succeed [spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, financially, etc].

As I mentioned in my last post: “May the new year [2021]  bring you an abundance of love, blessings, positive changes, and everything that your heart desires and whatever makes your soul sing.” REMEMBER I AM ALWAYS ROOTING FOR YOU! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Let’s Check In!

Here we are, the last blog post of the year!!! It has been a loooooonnngggg year for us all. We all had to deal with things we would have never imagined, but the fact that I am still here able to type this blog post and you’re here and able to read this post is a blessing in itself. There’s so many people that did not make it to the end of this chaotic year.

One word that wraps up this whole year and my life as a whole is: GRATITUDE! What are you grateful for?

I have many things to be grateful for, a few are:

-Improving Health: I recovered from my second hip replacement this year

-Support System

-Having the necessities of life

-Opportunity to make an impact

As you reflect on things you are grateful for, I want you to also reflect on the lessons you’ve learned over this year.

Some things I’ve learned or things that were reinforced:

-Appreciate who stays in your corner

-Self-care is a priority and it’s not a selfish act

-Protect your energy at all cost

-Time is something you can’t get back; don’t waste it on things and people who don’t add vault to your life

-Work towards your goals like the current day is your last

-Make the impact while you can

-Happiness is self-created

-Some will take you for granted; leave them where they are

Going into 2021, don’t forget the lessons you’ve learned. From experience I know learning the same lesson more than once is normally more painful the second time around! Listen to your gut instinct; it’ll never steer you wrong. Only you know what’s best for you, continue to trust yourself.

“May the new year [2021]  bring you an abundance of love, blessings, positive changes, and everything that your heart desires and whatever makes your soul sing.” REMEMBER I AM ALWAYS ROOTING FOR YOU! HAPPY HOLIDAYS! UNTIL NEXT YEAR!

Let’s Talk About “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”

There’s this ideal assumption that we as humans are supposed to be happy all the time and that we shouldn’t let anything get to us that will change that. There are times in our lives that things will come up that will affect our emotional and mental state.

It’s okay to not be okay…Is something that we have to get used to accepting. There will be times where you do not want to be bothered, or not happy with your current situation, or have a moment of weakness. You have every right to feel that way and feel through the emotions you are experiencing. If someone in your life [no matter who they are] doesn’t give you permission to go through the motions that life itself causes, then those people are not good for your life.

People in your life should motivate, encourage, and try and push you out of a downing emotional state, but if you’re not able to push through just yet they should still be able to accept and support you through it. The reality is everyone does not handle circumstances the same; this does not make the next person more weak. Personally, I commend people who are able to feel and sort through their emotions; I believe it makes them a stronger person.

In all things, even while going through the motions always remember to never give up! This is a quote I want to leave with you: “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, then it’s not the end.” -Ed Sheeran. Stay encouraged! I AM FOREVER ROOTING FOR YOU!

Let’s Talk About “Peace”

PEACE…“freedom from disturbance; tranquility-calm”. Stated was the exact definition of peace; what does peace mean to you? Peace isn’t always something that’s easy to obtain or keep constant. Change is one thing that’s constant and it can definitely alter your peace depending on what’s taking place in your life. For instance, we’ve been in the midst of a pandemic for 8 months, literally almost a year!! Something so life changing can make it hard to maintain peace. It can become even more hard when the environment you’re in isn’t the best for your mental state. Pandemic + Environmental Chaos does not go hand and hand!!!

You automatically have a duty to yourself to sustain inner peace; you have to tell and make yourself believe that anything outside of peace can not stay! Inner peace is a choice that we all have the option to choose. Let’s dive into some ways we can continue to sustain inner peace:

-Focus on what you can control and put action behind it

-Go to places that give you peace [ex. park/nature]

-Know you can’t control others and their actions

-Be your true self, daily.

-Accept and let go of all negativity

-Pray/Meditate

Let’s vow to try and apply these ways to our lives. We have to treat inner peace as more of a lifestyle. Continue to push through no matter what comes your way. ALWAYS REMEMBER, I AM FOREVER ROOTING FOR YOU!

Let’s Talk About “Seasonal Depression”….Again!

Depression is something that I highlighted on my blog site last year around this time, as well as mentioning seasonal depression. One of the causes of depression I mentioned was life changing events. Some of those life changing events can include:

-Loss in the family or a friend

-Illness

-Relationship Problems/Divorce or Family Problems

-Negative Financial Situations

These are all things that can trigger seasonal depression. The trigger we’re going to focus on is the loss of a family member or friend; I experience seasonal depression at times because I’ve lost a grandma, grandfather, and great-grandma. Sometimes it’s just hard dealing with the fact that I’ll never have them again because they played such a major role in the person I am today.

The question is: what can we do to get through it?

-Permission to Feel: it’s NORMAL to miss those who are no longer here

-Support System/Talk About It: talk and be around others who are feeling the way you’re feeling and may be even missing the same person

-Honor Them: Keep the same traditions going that they once did or start new ones

-Avoid Stress: stay  away from stressful situation that’ll increase the way you’re already feeling

-Stay Busy: sometimes having things to do and places to go can help you not think about the loss as much

Some other tips that can help with Depression:

-Gratitude: be grateful for life and the love ones you still have

-Exercise/Go Outside: don’t stay cooped up in the house; it won’t help

-Journal: write out your thoughts/feelings

-Professional Help: if needed

-Religion: religious practices

Depression is something that can affect anybody; it doesn’t choose specific people. It’s usually something that happens around the holidays because you’re reflecting on what’s no longer. It’s all about trying your best to be mentally strong to get through the phase. Also once you’ve done the work to get through it, make sure you reach out and help someone else in need.

Happy Holidays, I hope you guys enjoy your Thanksgiving. Even under the circumstances of still being in a midst of a pandemic. One thing we all can be grateful for is life; we’re still here another day. I’M FOREVER ROOTING FOR YOU! Until next time; take care!

Let’s Talk About “Procrastination”

Procrastination…this is something a lot of people deal with, including me. Most topics I give my personal opinion on how I got through it, but since this is a topic I struggle with I wanted to do some research behind it. This way I can help you guys and myself. While researching on this topic I ran across an article written by two accountability coaches [Ali Schiller and Marissa Boisvet] describing four types of procrastinators.

  1. Performer: “I work well under pressure”

–Biggest Challenge: getting started

–Solution: Set a start day and don’t focus on when you hope to end

  1. Self-Deprecator: “I am so lazy right now”-opposite of lazy, but when they don’t complete something they’re hard on themselves beating themselves-they’re really burned out

–Biggest Challenge: Not taking a break

–Solution: Give yourself permission to take a break and recharge

  1. Overbooker: “I’m so busy”

–Biggest Challenge: Making chaos to avoid the task at hand

–Solution: Ask yourself, “What are you trying to avoid?”

  1.  Novelty Seeker: “ I just had the best idea”-taking on new projects and getting bored with them

–Biggest Challenge: Completion

–Solution: Write down the new ideas you come up with, but don’t start them until you finish working on the current project

After reading these types, I would say that I relate most with the “Novelty Seeker” procrastinator. I’ve gotten a little better with it, proof being I had ideas to start a blog site and a YouTube channel.  I’ve stayed consistent with posting blog posts for a year and posting videos on YouTube for 5 months. So, that shows I’ve made progress. I have other goals I want to accomplish that I’ve been putting off, so I still have work to do. Which type do you relate most with? The next question I’ll ask us both, “what will we do with this new information?”.

While researching I also ran across this quote: “Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone”― Pablo Picasso. This really put things in perspective for me. Our purpose is way bigger than we sometimes want to realize. If you can get things accomplished towards your goals/purpose please do so with the time you have daily. You never know when your last day will be. I’m going to try my best to work towards doing the same. I’M ROOTING FOR YOU, WE BOTH CAN WIN AGAINST PROCRASTINATION!
