Let’s Talk About “Procrastination”

Procrastination…this is something a lot of people deal with, including me. Most topics I give my personal opinion on how I got through it, but since this is a topic I struggle with I wanted to do some research behind it. This way I can help you guys and myself. While researching on this topic I ran across an article written by two accountability coaches [Ali Schiller and Marissa Boisvet] describing four types of procrastinators.

  1. Performer: “I work well under pressure”

–Biggest Challenge: getting started

–Solution: Set a start day and don’t focus on when you hope to end

  1. Self-Deprecator: “I am so lazy right now”-opposite of lazy, but when they don’t complete something they’re hard on themselves beating themselves-they’re really burned out

–Biggest Challenge: Not taking a break

–Solution: Give yourself permission to take a break and recharge

  1. Overbooker: “I’m so busy”

–Biggest Challenge: Making chaos to avoid the task at hand

–Solution: Ask yourself, “What are you trying to avoid?”

  1.  Novelty Seeker: “ I just had the best idea”-taking on new projects and getting bored with them

–Biggest Challenge: Completion

–Solution: Write down the new ideas you come up with, but don’t start them until you finish working on the current project

After reading these types, I would say that I relate most with the “Novelty Seeker” procrastinator. I’ve gotten a little better with it, proof being I had ideas to start a blog site and a YouTube channel.  I’ve stayed consistent with posting blog posts for a year and posting videos on YouTube for 5 months. So, that shows I’ve made progress. I have other goals I want to accomplish that I’ve been putting off, so I still have work to do. Which type do you relate most with? The next question I’ll ask us both, “what will we do with this new information?”.

While researching I also ran across this quote: “Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone”― Pablo Picasso. This really put things in perspective for me. Our purpose is way bigger than we sometimes want to realize. If you can get things accomplished towards your goals/purpose please do so with the time you have daily. You never know when your last day will be. I’m going to try my best to work towards doing the same. I’M ROOTING FOR YOU, WE BOTH CAN WIN AGAINST PROCRASTINATION!
