Support looks different depending on the person. Support can be: a hug, quality time, words of affirmation, help with a task, heartfelt gifts, etc. You don’t always need support when you’re going through hard times, but when you’re seeking to do something new as well. Here are a few things you can do to help support those who may need it:
How to support someone trying to better themselves/start a new venture:
-Believe in Them: Someone believing in you can go along way
-Encourage Them: “You can do it!”
-Tell the Truth: This is with compassion of course
-Acknowledge Them: “Job well done!”
How to support someone through tough times:
-Be a listening ear
-Don’t make them ask for help
-Don’t make it about yourself
-Don’t rush them through their pain/grief
-Know the difference between sympathy and empathy. Sympathy: being able to recognize that another person is hurting. Empathy: being able to recognize how it feels to be hurting as someone else is
-Invite them out: “I would love to see you and spend time with you, but it’s ok if you’re not up to it.”
You should be appreciative of any support you’re getting because there are people out here who don’t have any support. If you are someone who doesn’t get much support you should not use that as an excuse to not accomplish the things you plan for yourself. You should continue to uplift yourself; it’s okay to keep yourself going-be good to yourself. Also, realize sometimes when someone is not lending their support they could be struggling with something themselves. Just as much as you would want people to support you; you should support others as well. CONTINUE PUSHING THROUGH-I’M STILL ROOTING FOR YOU!
